Hi, I’m Kasey! I cook, bake, photograph, and write here at Spill the Greens. I’m also an English professor, poet, and lactation-consultant-in-training. “Oh Kasey, would you just pick one thing?” I wish!
I studied English writing and Sociology at a small liberal arts school in southeastern Pennsylvania, and after that, I got an MFA in Creative Writing (Poetry) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Now I live with my cat, Poppy (see her picture down there), and husband, Ryan (he-who-shall-not-be-pictured), in the Sonoran Desert of the American Southwest, and I teach English at a local university. Over the past few years, I’ve worked as a freelance food writer while also overhauling my own diet and lifestyle, and I’ve taken a dive into the fringes of the world of healthcare. I’m a birth doula and an intern with a local breastfeeding and postpartum resource center, and I’m working on transitioning away from teaching and into lactation and nutritional support for pregnant and nursing moms and their babies and children. I’m documenting some of that here on Spill the Greens, so look for tagged posts if you’re interested!
So here I am, sharing the food I love to make and eat. You’ll find health-supporting recipes here, heavy on nutritionally dense ingredients like leafy greens, whole grains, vegetables, beans, nuts, and fruits. Because life is a treat, you’ll also find healthy sweet recipes here.
